07.15.10 - In response to a solicitation from the Federal Department of Commerce (DOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA), entitled "i6 Challenge Grant," the Milwaukee Institute, in collaboration with the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee 7 Committee, submitted a $1.5M proposal to continue its effort to develop and support a regional "cyberinfrastructure" (CI).
The CI, comprising shared broadband communications, high performance computational systems and services and an energy efficient data center, provides a regional platform for innovation and new business formation, a K20 educational resource, and a vehicle for supporting technology transfer between research and commercial organizations. The grant includes development of demonstration applications that address key regional "grand challenges" areas, including water resource management, clinical and translational medicine, and emergency services.
